Delight using the Virtual Headset!
Fairfield has been assisting in research into the use of virtual reality headsets to encourage exercise and to increase mobility.
Fairfield has been working with the local innovation company, ROVR, and Oxfordshire County Council Adult Social Care to test the use of virtual reality headsets to encourage and enhance mobility. The headsets enable the user to see in virtual reality familiar places, and then to use seated treadmills to explore the areas. Residents have been able to “go for walks” in Paris, in the Oxford Botanic Gardens, and in familiar cities in the UK.
Deputy Manager Shamaila Muzammil has noticed how the use of the headsets and the treadmills has enabled residents to be more confident in walking around the house and enjoying the beautiful gardens of Fairfield. One resident said that she was immediately drawn to Fairfield because of the gardens and orchard. “Who would believe that a residential home would have such lovely grounds in the very centre of North Oxford!,” she said.
Fairfield is always keen to innovate and to find new ways of enabling residents to experience and engage with its vision of an exceptionally happy home where residents enjoy a fulfilling later life.
